The landscape of selling real estate is changing; evolving based on changed purchasing habits of newer generations.  Most families and young professionals are trying to balance work, never ending education and busy personal lives consequently influencing purchase decisions, making staging a natural process of selling real estate. Also changing the industry is retiring baby boomers downsizing, opting for an active lifestyle and not desiring upkeep of a single family home.

As a result, current market expectations demand the house be “move-in” ready, homes where buyers can live until they have the time and money to personalize it, but until then, they have to like living there. At one time, home improvements were expected when purchasing a house; a buyer’s eye was trained to see potential whereas this is not the case today.

Aimed at consumers who are getting their homes ready to put them on the market, this book comes with a CD-ROM that includes before-and-after room photos. The book and the CD also include a series of home improvement and staging checklists, providing quick ideas to help any property show better.

The book goes beyond staging ideas to provide practical advice for home renovations, energy-saving tips, good painting techniques, packing and moving tips, and even how to hire professionals including home inspectors and real estate agents. There are tips throughout from professional home stagers throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Learn more about marketing strategies, techniques, tips and checklists to help you see your property objectively and find improvements that need attention.

 Excerpt from Publisher's Weekly:

Though it still may be possible for investors to prosper during the current crisis, many publishers have turned their attention to titles that help readers manage what real estate assets they haven’t yet lost. Richard Day, publisher at Self-Counsel Press, says it is impossible to venture a guess as to how and when the market will be steadied. Because of the grim forecast, Self-Counsel’s Do Your Own Home Staging by Tina Parker (Sept.) presents a realistic approach to surviving the crisis, according to Day. “The book addresses the issue of how one can make buyers want a house without price dumping.” In addition, Parker’s book tackles how one should go about selling one’s home in a town or suburb covered in for sale signs. Do Your Own Home Staging is not a get-rich-quick guide but rather a penultimate resort (price dumping being the last resort) for many struggling home owners.

Posted May 6, 2009, 1:51 AM EST: My sister was looking to sell her house and the market is horrible in her neighborhood so I bought her this book. She loved it, used some of the examples and lists, and got a sale faster than she expected plus a good price. Worth the money for sure!

I have read all of the Home Staging books I could find and this one is the best by far. It is very comprehensive with lots of extras such as how to take the best photos, choosing a good real estate agent, great tips on packing for the move etc. The check lists included in the book are great and a big help. Well done Tina Parker!
